Zara

Zara is an original acrylic painting on an 18" x 24" canvas — a portrait of a woman who arrived at the beach and immediately became the most interesting thing on it. She sits with relaxed, absolute confidence — legs folded beneath her, body turned slightly to the side, her face tilted just enough to suggest she has seen everything and found most of it mildly amusing. She wears a black and white striped strapless bikini top and matching high-waisted bottoms, the graphic stripe pattern bold and deliberate against her pale white silhouette. Dark sunglasses cover her eyes. Her lips are deep red — the only colour on her figure, a precise and knowing detail. Behind her head, an enormous wide-brimmed sun hat spirals outward in concentric rings of black and white, its graphic presence so commanding it becomes almost architectural — a halo, a target, a statement.
