Family Swim

Family Swim is an original acrylic painting on a 24" x 18" canvas — an underwater scene of a family in mid-swim, painted from below the surface with the kind of warm, weightless joy that belongs entirely to summer. Four figures are suspended in the water, their heads cut off at the waterline, the world above them visible only as a shimmering wash of gold, yellow, turquoise, and coral — the distorted reflection of sky and sun seen through moving water. On the left, a man in navy blue swim trunks, his body curled mid-kick. At centre, a young girl in a red and pink striped one-piece swimsuit, arms out, legs trailing, utterly at ease in the water. To the right, a woman in a patterned bikini top and turquoise bottoms, one leg extended in a graceful horizontal kick, her posture effortlessly elegant even underwater. At the bottom, a child in a gold swimsuit glides horizontally across the canvas wearing a snorkel mask and bright red fins — the most committed swimmer of the four. The water itself is the painting’s great achievement: pale blue and luminous, rendered in soft layered strokes that suggest depth, light, and movement all at once.
