Drink Chic

Drink Chic is an original acrylic and mixed media painting on an 18" x 24" board — a portrait of a woman taking coffee very seriously, and absolutely not taking it seriously at all. She holds a white coffee cup and saucer up to her lips, the words “DRINK CHIC” printed boldly across its side, her expression hidden behind enormous square-framed glasses — one eye wide open in vivid blue, one eye closed in a slow, knowing wink. She wears a bold red and white vertical stripe blazer with a black tie, the graphic pattern demanding attention even as everything above her neck steals the show. Her hair is swept into a tall dark updo, and from it — erupting from the top of her head in glorious, impossible abundance — spring cupcakes with swirled frosting, chocolate cake pops rolled in sprinkles, candy canes, and cherries. The sprinkles are real — tiny, colourful, dimensional — applied directly to the canvas, catching light and casting the tiniest shadows, as real and present as any jewel. The background is a soft pale blue with delicate floral pencil sketches, calm and quiet behind all that glorious excess. Pure paint, pure sprinkles, pure chic.
